Client Overview

Bjorklund Archive is a digital platform for managing and showcasing a professional artist’s work. The client needed more than a portfolio website: a central archive to organize and publish artworks, while allowing other users to manage their own collections and publish their work.

The platform was designed to support both detailed artwork management for the artist and controlled publishing for other contributors.

Business Challenge

A standard gallery theme or CMS could not meet the needs of a custom art archive management system.

The challenge was to combine artwork management, digital art archiving, collection organization, loan tracking, and access control into one platform while keeping workflows simple for the artist and other contributors.

The key challenges included:

  • Managing artist-owned and user-owned artworks separately.
  • Organizing artworks, folders, and catalogs in bulk.
  • Importing large collections without duplicates.
  • Controlling catalog access and editing permissions.
  • Tracking artwork loans, contracts, and client details.
  • Generating unique QR codes for artworks and folders.
  • Recording detailed platform activity.
  • Exporting selected artworks as PDFs using predefined layouts.

The goal was to build a custom platform for efficient artwork and collection management.

Our Approach

The interface was designed in Figma first, covering artwork collections, folders, and bulk management actions. The React frontend handles browsing and managing collections, while the Laravel backend manages artwork ownership, access permissions, loans, activity records, and PDF exports.

We also added QR code generation and predefined PDF layouts to support artwork identification and documentation. The platform was built from scratch to meet the client’s specific requirements instead of adapting a standard gallery theme or CMS.

This approach brought key artwork management tasks together in one centralized platform and gave the artist and other users a structured way to organize, manage, and publish their artworks.

The solution also supports complex archive workflows, making it easier to track artwork loans, maintain collection records, and export selected artwork details when needed.
