Client Overview
Philadelphia Sightseeing Tours runs hop-on hop-off sightseeing bus tours for visitors exploring Philadelphia. Tourists can get on and off at any stop and explore the city at their own pace.
PST&T wanted to create a complete digital and print experience for them. The client needed an illustrated city map that could be handed to visitors, making sightseeing routes and locations easy to understand. They also needed printed marketing materials, including brochures, rack cards, flyers and business cards.
On the digital side, PST&T wanted a city tour app for Android and iOS where users could view sightseeing routes, track their bus, check ticket pricing and discover nearby places of interest. A key requirement was multilingual audio, so tourists could listen to information about each location in their preferred language. The client also needed a backend system to manage routes, tracking codes, audio content, locations and app settings.
Business Challenge
PST&T serves visitors from many countries, and each of them meets the brand through a different touchpoint, such as a printed map, a bus on the street or an app on their phone.
All of these touchpoints needed to work together, so tourists could understand routes quickly, find their bus and listen to local stories in their own language.
The key challenges included:
- Making complex sightseeing routes easy to understand at a glance.
- Keeping the map, print materials and mobile apps visually consistent.
- Showing live bus locations on a map and telling tourists when the next bus will arrive.
- Delivering location-based audio guides in 12 languages.
- Showing ticket pricing, sightseeing information and nearby places in one app.
- Building a CMS app and admin panel to manage routes, tracking codes, audio content and app settings.
- Updating routes and content without releasing a new version of the mobile app.
The objective was to connect the physical tourist experience with digital navigation and self-guided sightseeing.
Our Approach
The solution was designed as one integrated tourist experience across print, web and mobile. The illustrated map made complex routes easier to understand at a glance, and the supporting print materials kept the same visual identity.
For the digital experience, our tourism mobile app development team combined live bus tracking, arrival times, ticket information, nearby attractions and multilingual audio guides in one app. Our transport app development, bus tracking app development and GPS tracking app development experience shaped how routes and live bus locations are presented, so tourists can see where their bus is and when it arrives in just a few taps.
The backend was built as a central control system. The client can manage routes, tracking codes, audio files and app parameters without changing the mobile app itself. This keeps content accurate and saves time on routine updates.
